Battleship Potemkin (1925)
"Director Sergei Eisenstein famously wished that a new film score would be made every 10 years for his magnum opus 'Battleship Potemkin' so I was happy when I got a chance to take up the task. A relatively short film in which a lot happens so I tried to keep it minimal with a lot of improvisation, trying to musically reflect both the hope of the people as the absurd cruelty of the powers that be. In the famous Odessa steps-scene I went a little crazy with the 'Hoover sound' (on a Roland Alpha Juno), mostly used in house music but also perfectly fitting for the on-screen atrocities."
